Day One

Today was day one of the first session of the 105th Nebraska Legislature and it was certainly one to be remembered. The session was ushered in by the swearing in of 17 new members and the selection of new leadership.

The body elected Jim Scheer of Norfolk as its new Speaker of the Legislature and Dan Watermeier voted Chairman of the Executive Board. Other standing committee chairpersons elected were:

  • Sen. Brett Lindstrom, Banking, Commerce and Insurance
  • Sen. Joni Albrecht, Business and Labor
  • Sen. Mike Groene, Education
  • Sen. Tyson Larson, General Affairs
  • Sen. John Murante, Government, Military and Veterans Affairs
  • Sen. Merv Reipe, Health and Human Services
  • Sen. Laura Ebke, Judiciary
  • Sen. Dan Hughes, Natural Resources
  • Sen. Mark Kolterman, Nebraska Retirement Systems
  • Sen. Jim Smith, Revenue
  • Sen. Curt Friesen, Transportation and Telecommunications
  • Sen. Justin Wayne, Urban Affairs
